Breitling unveils the newly redesigned Avenger collection.

There are few watch brands in the world that can boast such an impressive and enduring link to aviation as Breitling. The company began manufacturing onboard clocks and other key pieces of equipment for airplanes back in the 1930s and has since established itself as leading manufacturer of aviation-related watches. This year, Breitling unveils the newly redesigned Avenger collection, the third member of its Air universe. Robust, reliable and ready for adventure, this collection more than lives up to its bold name.
Having debuted in 2001, this redesign represents the transition of one of Breitling’s boldest collections into the era of modern aviation. Now, this performance-inspired pilot’s watch is ready to be discovered by a new generation of men and women of action, purpose, and style. As always, we have chosen a few of our favourites to highlight for you below.

Super Avenger Chronograph 48

The grand-daddy of the new collection, the Super Avenger Chronograph is presented in a bold, 48mm stainless steel case, complete with unidirectional ratcheted bezel. The black dial plays host to a central time display (hours and minutes), with running seconds shown on a sub-dial at 9 o’clock. There is also full chronograph functionality, with a central, red-tipped chronograph seconds hand, a 30-minute counter at 12 o’clock, and a 12-hour counter at six o’clock. The date is shown via a window at 3 o’clock. The central hands and indexes are coated with SuperLumiNova®, a luminescent material that offers optimal legibility in low-light conditions.

Inside is the chronometer-certified, selfwinding Breitling Caliber 13 mechanical chronograph movement. It offers a power reserve of approximately 48 hours. Rated water resistant to 300 meters, the Super Avenger Chronograph 48 is available on an anthracite leather military strap with either a pin or folding buckle or on a stainlesssteel bracelet with a folding clasp. Designed to be robust, functional and easy to operate, even when wearing gloves, this is the ultimate choice for the airborne adventurer.

Avenger Chronograph 43 & 45

Delivering similarly robust style and functionality as the Super Avenger Chronograph above, the new Avenger Chronographs are available in more modestly-sized 45mm and 43mm steel cases. The larger of the two offers a black dial with yellow highlights, whilst the 43mm model is available with either a black or blue dial. Like the Super Avenger, all feature a special grip-pattern on the crown and chronograph pushers so that they can be easily operated, even with gloves on. All three options are powered by the Breitling Caliber 13 mechanical chronograph movement and are available with your choice of a stainless-steel bracelet, or military leather strap matching the colour of the dial.

Avenger Automatic 45 Seawolf

Although designed as a pilot’s watch, the Breitling Avenger Automatic 45 Seawolf is just as comfortable underwater as it is in the skies. Its 45 mm stainless steel case is rated water resistant to an incredible 3,000 metres and features a unidirectional ratcheted bezel and a screwed titanium caseback. With a striking striking yellow dial, the Seawolf makes a statement on the wrist while also ensuring it is easy to see by air, land or sea. Equipped with the COSC-certified, self-winding Breitling Caliber 17 mechanical movement, it offers a central time display, complete with running seconds and date. Wear it on a stainless-steel bracelet, or black military leather strap that fits either a stainless-steel pin buckle or folding clasp.

Avenger Automatic GMT 45

Rounding out our selection is the Avenger Automatic GMT 45. Offered in a 45mm stainless steel case with blue dial, this model introduces the added functionality of a GMT hand. Long a popular complication for pilots travelling across time-zones, the additional red-hand allows the wearer to simultaneously view both local and home time. Rated water resistant to 300m, the case houses the Breitling Calibre 32, which offers a 42-hour power reserve, 2nd timezone and a calendar display via an aperture. Once again, this model is available with your choice of a stainless-steel bracelet, or a blue military leather strap that fits either a stainless-steel pin buckle or folding clasp.
