The Little Lange 1 Moon Phase ‘Gold Flux’
As the name suggests, the Little Lange 1 is a scaled-down version of the Lange 1, one of the brand’s most iconic and enduring models. At 36.8mm the case is perfectly suited to smaller wrists and lends itself to more feminine interpretations of this classic wristwatch. Defined by its asymmetrical dial layout, the Little Lange 1 features a large date display – inspired by the Five-Minute Clock of the Semper Opera House in Dresden – an off-centre hour and minute dial, a small second sub-dial with integrated moon phase display and a power reserve indicator. Its unique design is guided by the golden ratio, an ancient mathematical formula thought to yield aesthetically pleasing proportions. Which, as we’re sure you’ll agree, has certainly been successfully executed here.
For the dial of the new Little Lange 1 Moon Phase ‘Gold Flux’, however, Lange has created something extra special. Hewn from solid silver, it features a dark blue gold flux coating with copper particles that shimmer under the light. The effect is a strikingly realistic rendering of a starry night sky. In keeping with this celestial theme, the hour track inside the main off-centre dial is a mix of star motifs and traditional Roman numerals crafted from rhodium-plated gold, as are the hands. Likewise, the white gold lunar disc featured against the dark blue gold flux dial of the Little Lange 1 is adorned with 628 stars. It tracks the lunar cycle with incredible accuracy – 99.998% – only requiring correction once every 122.6 years, assuming the watch runs continuously.
In alignment with the 1 and 2 o’clock location is the distinctive oversized date aperture, which comprises numerals that are around three times larger than standard watches with date complications. Below it is the power reserve indicator, displaying the remaining energy of the watch’s manual-winding in-house movement. Comprised of 411 individual components and 44 rubies, Calibre L121.2 features a lever escapement and a twin mainspring barrel that enables it to deliver a solid 3-day power reserve. As is typical of a Lange timepiece, the rear of the watch is just as much a spectacle to behold as the front. Highlights include a hand-engraved balance cock and three-quarter plate crafted from German silver, Glashütte ribbed decoration, gold chatons and blued steel components. All of which is on display through a sapphire glass case back.
The new A. Lange & Söhne Little Lange 1 Moon Phase ‘Gold Flux’ is presented on a shiny blue leather strap with sparkling pigments and a solid 18k white gold pin buckle fastening. As mentioned previously, there is also the option for a diamond set bezel to add that extra touch of glamour.
