TUDOR x Alinghi Red Bull Racing – Discover The New Models
What’s better than one new edition of TUDOR’s award-winning, military inspired Pelagos FXD timepiece? Two new editions! To celebrate its partnership with America’s Cup competitor Alinghi Red Bull Racing, TUDOR recently unveiled two special versions of its Pelagos FXD. One is time-only, while the other introduces chronograph functionality to the Pelagos range for the first time. Sure to turn heads down at your yacht club, both feature matte blue dials, subtle red highlights and super-light carbon composite cases. Read on for all the details.
Challenging for the America’s Cup, considered the world’s most important sailing event, demands an unwavering blend of foresight, inventive thinking, and boldness. It is this very ethos – encapsulated in the brand’s #BornToDare tagline – that propelled TUDOR into a collaborative partnership with Alinghi Red Bull Racing. Bringing together the storied prowess of Alinghi, a double victor of the America’s Cup (2003 and 2007), with the dynamic influence of global sports leader Red Bull, the team will sail under the flag of the prestigious Société Nautique de Genève.
Of course, to be a contender in the most competitive yacht race in history, you need more than just a daring spirit. You need the right equipment. And in this regard, TUDOR has most certainly played its part, delivering two robust, reliable and all-round good-looking timepieces.
The time-only Pelagos FXD Alinghi Red Bull Racing Edition (Ref 25707KN), is offered in a 42mm round case and stands 12.75mm high, while its contemporary, the Pelagos FXD Chrono Alinghi Red Bull Racing Edition (Ref 25807KN), comes in a slightly larger 43mm case standing 13.6mm high. The compact design of the mid-case means that both wear slimmer than their specs might suggest. Comfort on the wrist is further elevated by the use of a lightweight, black carbon composite for the case construction material paired with single-piece blue fabric straps with just a dash of red. The strap is attached via fixed bars and uses a hook-and-loop closure system. For the crown – and on the chrono version, the pushers – TUDOR has used titanium.
Both models feature matte blue dials with red accents (Red Bull is a key part of this collaboration after all) and the white luminous hour markers so closely associated with the Pelagos collection. As the name suggests, the time-only version features three hands and displays the hours, minutes and running seconds. The chrono meanwhile features a bi-compax layout, with running seconds shown on the sub-dial at nine o’clock and elapsed minute counter at three o’clock, with central chronograph seconds. The date is shown via an aperture at six o’clock. Framing the dials are 120-click bi-directional titanium bezels set with carbon inserts replete with luminous 60-minute countdown scales.
Aside from the colour scheme, the references to Alinghi Red Bull racing are kept to a minimum, the most notable one being the small nameplate at 12 o’clock on the rehaut. Both models also feature stainless steel solid casebacks, engraved with the Alinghi Red Bull Racing logo. Underneath these beat two very reliable in-house movements. The time-only model is equipped with the Tudor MT5602, a self-winding calibre offering a power reserve of approximately 70 hours. The FXD Chrono meanwhile makes use of TUDOR’s self-winding MT5813, which also delivers a 70-hour power reserve. Both movements are COSC-certified chronometers, attesting to the high-performance nature of these timepieces.
